Solana Beach CA Real Estate, Solana Beach area and Community Information
Solana Beach, California, is a prosperous and affluent coastal community with about 13,000 inhabitants. It is situated in the northern part of San Diego County, just to the north of the historic Del Mar race track. Access to downtown San Diego to the south and Los Angeles to the north is provided by Interstate 5.
History
The San Dieguitos people long inhabited the area prior to the arrival of Spanish explorers. In 1886, the Jones family became the first family to settle in what is today Solana Beach. However, the community that eventually grew here was originally called Lockwood Mesa. The building of the Lake Hodges Dam during World War I stimulated the further growth of the town. In 1922, Col. Ed Fletcher purchased land for $20 an acre to establish a town center. Solana Beach was incorporated in 1986, and residential real estate in Solana Beach has expanded ever since.
